Mobile Phone Software
It has been a long time since I touched on the subject of mobile phones on this blog, so this is a little break from the norm. Having recently purchased an Apple iPhone, I’ve been looking around at the amount of mobile phone software out there. Specifically via the App Store. All I can say is WOW.
When I first started using mobile phones, around 1999 I think, you couldn’t even find additional software for your mobile phone. You had the firmware and that was that. Then game the introduction of mobile / Java games a few years later and now you can pretty much download anything you need. I had a browse around the app store for around 15 minutes and saw more titles than I see when I go into PC world! Whatever application you can find for your PC or notebook, you can almost always find it for your iPhone in the app store. I don’t know if the amount of software is due to the popularity of the iPhone itself or the fact that people can literally sell their own apps is encouraging more and more freelance developers to make applications but it’s certainly a breath of fresh air. I think the web needs a dedicated freelance software store like the app store.
